About Stefan Rüesch’s art

Although Stefan Rüesch’s landscape paintings appear to be very natural, they are actually meticulously composed from the bottom up. There is not a single intuitive brushstroke or any impressionistic unsharpness to be found in these works. Instead, the pictures are rigorously geometrical in composition: Every section, every detail is very precisely delimited from the next patch of color, the next line. Stefan Rüesch works exclusively in verticals and horizontal lines. As a result, his pictures have a grid-like, digital appearance and entirely dispense with color gradients. And yet this impression contrasts with the purely handcrafted precision of the brushstrokes. Thus, the landscape paintings by Stefan Rüesch appear to be completely natural and familiar, ultra-modern and at the same time archaic.
